We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our earthwork construction team. The ideal candidate has strong machine control, can work to grade, and takes pride in safe, efficient production. Responsibilities include operating excavators for site excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and loading material, while working closely with the foreman and crew to help keep projects on schedule.

Job Description
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently for excavation, trenching, grading, loading, and backfilling
- Use foot and hand controls to maneuver equipment, including in tight spaces as needed
- Enter and exit equipment cabs, including vehicles with elevated entry points, and climb ladders or steps to access machinery and work areas
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of equipment, including safety devices, lights, horns, cooling systems, tires, and other components
- Fuel, lubricate, and grease heavy equipment
- Visually inspect equipment for mechanical defects and report concerns to the appropriate personnel
- Read and follow site plans, grade stakes, blueprints, and oral or written instructions from supervisors
- Work around utilities, trench boxes, shoring, pipes, and other site infrastructure as required
- Communicate effectively with foremen, truck drivers, laborers, and other crew members using voice, radio, and hand signals
- Maintain safe work practices and comply with all company and jobsite safety requirements
- Work cooperatively with other employees and the public
- Demonstrate a continuous effort to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and streamline work processes
- Perform all duties in a manner that does not pose a direct threat to self or others
Requirements
- Previous experience operating large excavators
- Ability to work safely and follow instructions
- Ability to perform physical job duties in outdoor conditions
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in heavy civil or earthwork construction
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment
- Ability to work in tight spaces and changing site conditions
